Hello Department,

To generate a little extra interest in the highly cherished JHU BME department t-shirts, the Ph.D. council has decided to sponsor a t-shirt design contest to come up with this year's t-shirt design.  If you have the winning design, you will receive a prize of $50 plus the added bonus of seeing the sad look on your friend's faces when they see your super awesome design, and not their lame design, printed on all the BME department t-shirts!  Wow!!  Neat-o!!

These T-Shirts are generally given out to all of the incoming first years at the department retreat and will be available for purchase by the upper years for a nominal fee.

If you're interested in having a shot at the $50 prize and seeing your glorious design become the most prized possession in the wardrobes of
your fellow graduate students, here's how to enter:

1.  Make a T-Shirt design
2.  Email me (Ben) the T-Shirt design before 6PM on Monday, September 7

Wow!  There are only two steps!  How easy!  Plus, if you're the only one who enters a design, you win the $50 by default!!!

Now for the details...

1.  The winning design will be decided by a popular vote of the BME Ph.D. students.

2.  To keep the cost of the shirts down, the department has requested that the design contains no more than two colors (It can have printing on both the front and back).  The color of the shirts themselves will be white.

3.  Please try to keep the design gender neutral.

4.  The department also uses these shirts as hand outs for various promotional events, so please make sure your design is 'appropriate' to give to a random person who has no affiliation with Hopkins.

5.  Make sure your design images have a large enough resolution that they can be enlarged to a printable size.  We'll probably need something about 300 dots per inch or more when it's enlarged to its actual size.

6.  Save all of the original images for your design.  Depending on what company we end up ordering shirts from, we may need to adjust the format for printing.

7.  Please print your designs to a pdf using high resolution/quality print settings and send me the pdfs.  Send one pdf that contains the design for the front of the shirt and a second pdf that contains the design for the back of the shirt.  If you don't have software to print pdf's on your computer, this is free and works well (http://www.primopdf.com/).

8.  Optionally, in addition to the two pdf's you may also send a picture of your design on a t-shirt template to show how the design would look on a finished shirt.  Various websites (such as http://www.customink.com/lab/?PK=04600) let you enter your design and then print out a preview of what it would look like on a shirt.

Remember, all designs must be received by me before 6PM on Monday, September 7 to be considered.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Happy Designing,
Ben

We're hoping that this will be a helpful resource, especially on "first getting into Baltimore" and "advice w/in the program," with available downloadable forms/maps, and a housing listing. If you have more ideas, please email me or the "official Webmaster address," bme.jhu@gmail.com If you want to help edit the website or add events to the calendar, please email Issel Lim, and she will add you as a "Collaborator." We especially need REVIEWS (restaurants, places to live, useful places, etc) and info (committees, housing ads, useful services).

FSSHH: Friday Student Seminar and Happy Hour

We ARE going to have FSSHH (BME Friday Student Seminar and Happy Hour) this fall.  and it will be awesome.

Just need people to volunteer to speak!  PLEASE consider volunteering for a talk.  It can be short (15-30 minutes), and as formal or informal as you would like.

Take a look at the tentative schedule below and please volunteer!  Location (homewood/clark) is at the speaker's preference.  We'll also need a different volunteer each week to get food/drink ($150 budget -- nice!)
