The BME PhD Council

The BME PhD Council has the following goals:

• to provide reports from the BME Committee and Primary Faculty Meeting student representatives,
• to give the collective doctoral student body a unified voice in departmental affairs, and
• to generate a closer sense of community among the PhD students.

Recent News

The Calendar will now display academic announcements (e.g., Thesis Defense/Proposal presentations, holidays), seminars (e.g., talks organized by Bioethics, BME, Hopkins Medical Device Network), and social events (e.g., WoW's "The Science of Sugar" presentation, BME Happy Hours). Please email the webmaster if you've got an event to share, and feel free to subscribe to the calendar, copy the events, or set a reminder. (There's a two-way Google Calendar Plug-in for Mozilla Thunderbird.)

A bit of information for Prospective Students (including Tax Info, Renting, Housing, etc) is on the Baltimore page, as well as traveling tips in Maryland (links to the MTA and directions).

New maps (campus maps, shuttle routes/schedules) are available on the Download page. The Turkey Bowl photos have finally been uploaded to the Photos page and Picasa Albums.

The list of GBO Committees has been updated. (Please send updates/info on GBO Committees, Thesis Committees, Photos, Events, or Alumni Updates to bme.jhu@gmail.com!)

Fun times @ the BME Retreat in Ocean City have been posted in photograph form on the Photos page and in our Picasa Web Album. If you've got more photos, send 'em to the webmaster, and she'll put 'em up. Thanks to Kartik for his photos on the Ethics Debate! :) Some of the later photos have been put in a private album, so just email bme.jhu at gmail dot com if you want access.

Contest results from the retreat, including posters, BME Bingo, and Flip Cup have been posted on the Council page.

New information about PhD requirements have been posted on the Academics page. NOTE: If you are planning on taking your GBO, you need to FILL OUT THE GBO FORM at least THREE WEEKS BEFORE your exam date.

The BME Retreat is this weekend! (September 16-17) We'll be going to The Grand Hotel in Ocean City. (See The Meeting Minutes for more details.)

We've got a preliminary List of GBO Committees!! Add your own information! Email the webmaster information about your GBO Committee: your name, year, research area; the faculty members of your council; and their research areas and/or questions they asked.

The first ALUMNI page is also up!! Please check it out and update accordingly.

Email the webmaster a list of which professors were on your committees for the GBO and thesis proposal/defense. This list will be on the academics page. Jiyoung is also compiling a list of alumni, which we'll add to the site soon. If you know who's gone where after the PhD program, please email the webmaster.

Quick Update: Summer sporting events have been added to the calendar. Many more links have been added, and the baltimore page has a lot of information. Minutes from the PhD Council meeting have been posted on the council page. The volunteering page has also been updated. Please email Issel or bme.jhu at gmail.com if you've got fun or useful URLs, and share your knowledge on the Forums.

Another renovation. Includes a new format, updated administrative information, more events on the calendar, resources for volunteering, contact info for sports, a few more photos and links, and more forms to download.

Counters have been reset, and with individual counters per page.

Best of all... the FORUMS are now operational. Feel free to peruse, add your input, and ask/answer questions.
