Volunteering
Serving the Community
|
| The Incentives Mentoring Program fosters the academic and personal growth of students at Dunbar High School. Volunteers provide after-school tutoring for the students. The students design and participate in monthly community service projects to benefit others. In addition, there are quarterly field trips to build a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. IMP meets every Monday and Tuesday from 3:15pm - 6pm in the Dunbar High School library. Dinner is provided for the students and volunteers.

| The goal of the Baltimore County Math League initiative, spearheaded by Raymond Cheong and Jun-Kyu Rhee, is to bring the experience of in-person math contests to Baltimore County high school students. Such experiences often have a strong positive influence on students by improving math skills, encouraging future pursuit of technical careers, and providing a feeling of belonging through peer interaction. This academic year, the initiative has teamed with the Baltimore County public school system to fund, assemble, and send an all-county team to the American Regions Math League (ARML) contest in June 2006. In 2006-2007, we will establish a league of 3-5 schools and hold 4-8 meets, as well as continue the all-county ARML team. Through these efforts, we hope to set a foundation for a Baltimore County Math League that will thrive for years to come.
